The Royal hosted its 15th annual Inspiration Awards Gala in early March. This event honoured people who have inspired awareness about mental health and hope for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Each of their histories is gripping and unique. They have had to overcome societal biases about mental illness and have changed the way people think about mental health and advocated for better services. They have given hope to others who are suffering and are proof that one person can make a difference.
“We are committed to research, the search for innovations in care, and getting people access to new therapies and treatments,” said Mitchell Bellman, President and CEO of The Royal’s Foundation. “Everyone who supports us is part of this pursuit.”
Label Innovation president Kelly Youngdale was in attendance at this year’s event. Other attendees included Margaret Trudeau, Honourary Patron of The Royal, who met with award recipients beforehand. Trudeau is a former patient of The Royal, and an inspiration to many living with mental illness. Her openness about living with bipolar disorder has changed the way people around the world view mental illness.
