Face Cutting
 

The process of cutting only a portion of the substrate's thickness and leaving the remaining portion intact. The die is positioned so that it only cuts the label stock, not the release liner beneath it.

 

Face Printing
 
Printing on the outer surface of a transparent film in contrast to printing on the back (i.e. reverse) of the substrate
 

Face Stock
 

The part of the substrate that is printed opposed to the disposable release liner that carries the face stock through the press.

 

Fan Fold
 

The process of folding the labels in packs for feeding into printers that are not equipped to use rolls.

 

Finish
 

The degree of gloss or flatness of a surface.

 

Finish, Matte
 

A dull finish, flat.

 

Finish, Satin
 

A type of dull finish, somewhat finer than matte.

 

Flexography
 
A method of direct rotary printing, using resilient raised-image printing plates, affixed to variable repeat plate cylinders, inked by a roll carrying fluid or paste type inks to virtually any substrate.
 

Foil
 
A very thin metal
 

Four Colour Process
 
Printing yellow, magenta, cyan colour inks plus black, using screens to create all other colours.
